CLASS DESCRIPTION
Ballet: This technique class focuses on building a strong foundation or refining the skills established in classical ballet. Dancers will learn exercises at the barre that develop muscle strength in their core, ankles, things, backs, and arms. Center work helps them activate the muscles they’ve used during the warm up and apply them without the use of the barre. Ballet class skills include strong reeves (rising up to the Demi pointe, pirouettes, developpes, and jumps.

Horton Technique: This modern dance form developed by Lester Horton is a full body comprehensive strengthening technique used by dance companies like Alvin Ailey and Philadanco! In this class dancers will learn fortifications, flat back series, laterals, balance studies, floor work, and across the floor movement.

Jazz: This stylized form of dance is derived from the African American experience in this country, combines African and European dance movements. This high energy style focuses on rhythm, syncopation, coordination, and increases a dancer’s strength, flexibility and endurance.
​
Tap: Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. This class will focus on the history of tap dance and the significance of cultural identity.
​
Acro: This class is a mix of acrobatic skills and dance which requires strong dance technique as well as athleticism. Dancers will engage in skills like flexibility, balancing, tumbling, agility and motor coordination.

Flamenco: This art form is based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia. This dance style evokes a passion and energy so unique and is performed and enjoyed throughout the world.
​
African: African dance recounts history, conveys emotion, celebrates rites of passage, and helps to unify communities. It is important for dancers to learn and understand the rich heritage or African dance and see how so many popular dances done today have roots in African dance.
​
Contemporary: This style is a blend of all styles of dance and is for intermediate dancers who have a strong foundation of ballet and jazz technique.
