As we head into Spring Break, we’re embracing this moment to breathe, reflect, and reset. At Black Girls Dance®, we believe rest is a form of resistance—and also a crucial part of the creative process. Our dancers work hard all year, and this time off is not only well-deserved
but also necessary to return refreshed and refueled for what’s next.
And trust us—what’s next is BIG.
The doors of opportunity have been blowing wide open for BGD this season. From community performances and new partnerships to national recognition across the Obama Foundation and Girls Opportunity Alliance platforms, the momentum is real—and we are so grateful.
But the biggest moment of the season is still to come.
🗓 June 15, 2025 marks our annual Spring Concert, and this year’s theme is “HOMECOMING.”We’re celebrating the power, pride, and excellence of HBCUs, and our dancers will be donning Afros, twist-outs, puffs, and braid-outs—honoring the legacy and beauty of natural Black hair on stage.

This concert is more than just a performance. It’s a moment for our dancers to shine, to stand in their power, and to show the world what happens when young Black girls are trained, nurtured, and celebrated.
We’re also preparing to honor 7 graduating seniors—students who have grown up in our program, many of whom we’ve trained since they were just 8 years old. Cue the tears. 🥹
And while the dancing is central, we know that what makes Black Girls Dance® truly special is the community. With so many new families joining this season, we want to remind you that you’re not alone. We encourage you to reach out and connect with our BGD “O.G.” parents—the ones who’ve seen it all and have plenty of wisdom (and hacks!) to share. Whether you’re unsure about hair, costumes, or just need a little encouragement—we’ve got you.
As we pause for Spring Break and look ahead to our shining moment in June, we invite you to continue walking with us. Share our mission, support our dancers, and if you’re in the Chicago area—join us at Governor’s State University for HOMECOMING. You do not want to miss it.
Here’s to a season of rest, radiance, and real impact. We’re just getting started.
With gratitude,
Erin B.Founder, Black Girls Dance®
